Equinix Expanding Capabilities of Its Open Source Bare Metal Automation Platform Tinkerbell

More enterprises are said to be taking interest in the platform now that it’s been open sourced as a Cloud Native Computing Foundation project. Here’s a company name you didn’t use to hear in conjunction with open source software release cycles but now increasingly will: Equinix.

When the colocation giant acquired Packet, a bare metal cloud provider, last year, the crown jewel was Packet’s infrastructure automation technology, which made the experience of provisioning bare metal servers similar to that of provisioning VMs in a public cloud.

AlmaLinux, the $1M Drop-In CentOs Replacement, Is Out and Bound for Data Centers

Its creator, CloudLinux, built the distribution at warp speed, racing to fill the void left by Red Hat’s EOL announcement for CentOS. AlmaLinux, designed as a drop-in replacement for CentOS 8, is headed for data centers.

The company behind the new Linux distro, CloudLinux, announced general availability of the first stable release of AlmaLinux OS in a virtual event Tuesday. It was conceived just this past December, immediately after Red Hat’s announcement that it was killing CentOS.
